One way to help little ones want to brush their teeth…

🦷 Brush like a superhero 🦷

The tooth brushing routine is a struggle for many in particular with little ones as they simply don’t understand why we are doing it!
Let your little one feel like a superhero whilst brushing with the new Colgate Batman battery brush for 3+. It’s a great way to make the routine fun without having to use a phone or video each morning and evening.

The brush has a small oscillating head, is slim and lightweight – perfect for little hands, and comes in Minion, Barbie and Trolls design too!

Available from Boots for just £7! In either Batman, Minion, Barbie or Trolls styles.

(Shop this week for half price here)

Alternatively for older children, why not try The Colgate Magik brush (5+ years) – the first manual toothbrush (you pop the device over your little ones normal manual brush) with Augmented Reality and will help teach children how to brush their teeth properly.

Connect the brush to an app on your phone and, as your child brushes, they will be able to travel through augmented reality games, fighting cavity monsters. Afterwards the app will provide you with a personalised mouth map to show you where your child has brushed and where they have missed, so they can improve their technique over time. – It will give them a challenge and a reason to want to brush their teeth too! Available from Amazon for £15.00

Our love for Bonds Baby clothing

When you’re expecting – even before in some cases, walking through clothing stores, supermarkets or even shopping online; I’m sure that every single person has a browse, or maybe a glance over at the children’s section. In some cases out of envy – children seem to have so much more on offer these days, and they’re always so stylish with so many options too!

Now we love a lot of brands, and generally found there is a LOT of plain items for boys… or they’re joggers, not leggings and generally blue. Then BONDS Baby Australia (Sold here via Next, John Lewis, & Smooch Suits to name a few) lands in my inbox. Colourful, bright and beautiful kidswear, with prints that are wild and in most cases, equally unisex – and we must admit, we fell instantly in love!

Take a look at some of our favourites below – aren’t they amazing? We cannot wait to see what they have in store for us throughout 2021!

Get your kids to eat everything with this amazing new book from the Author of A Mummy too (Recipe inside)…

Getting kids to eat everything you’d like to is a huge challenge for every parent. One minute they love something, the next – detest something with no reason behind that change of mindset. Introducing Get Your Kids to Eat Anything: The 5-phase programme to change the way your family thinks about food by Emily Leary.

This book may just be the U-turn for those parents stuck in the limbo of the same five recipes every week on rotation, or those with fussy little eaters that you can’t get head nor tail of their likes and dislikes from week-to-week. It helps you to promote discovery, change the norm and to educate children in new tastes and textures, with work sheets inside to track likes and dislikes from the recipes you try. It even includes some unusual strawberries and cream pasta – which is high on our list to try, along with so many of the recipes. (The recipes are great for the entire family and perfect for me to prep with the impending arrival this summer!)

Plus keep your eyes peeled as we plan to bring you our try at some of Emily’s amazing recipes too!

CURRIED FISH FINGERS (websize), Emily Leary, Get Your Kids To Eat Anything

Curried Fish Fingers with sweet potato chips

This recipe is great when you start to introduce your family to more exciting foods because it looks familiar but has great new flavours to explore. Sweet potato fries are a great colour and naturally sweet, so will win over younger palates with ease.

SERVES 4 | PREP TIME: 30 MINS • COOK TIME: 25 MINS

For the chips

  • 500g (1lb 2oz) sweet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic granules
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • pinch of pepper

For the fish fingers

  • 240g (8½oz) skinless cod fillets
  • 50g (1¾oz) plain flour
  • 1 medium free-range egg, lightly beaten
  • 50g (1¾oz) dried breadcrumbs
  • pinch of pepper
  • ½ tablespoon garlic granules
  • ½ tablespoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • ½ tablespoon ground coriander
  • oil spray

1. Preheat the oven to 200C (400F), 180C fan, Gas Mark 6.

2. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into chips about 1cm (½in) thick. Put them in a bowl and mix in the cornflour with your hands. Add the garlic granules, paprika and olive oil and mix again, then tip onto a nonstick baking tray in a single layer and sprinkle with pepper.

3. Bake for 10 minutes, then turn and bake for a further 10–15 minutes until crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.

4. Meanwhile, slice the cod into 2cm- (¾in-) thick fingers.

5. Set up 3 bowls: the first containing the flour, the second the egg and the third the breadcrumbs. In a small dish, mix the pepper, garlic granules and spices together, then stir half into the flour and half into the breadcrumbs.

6. Dip a fish piece into the flour to lightly cover. Shake off the excess, then dip into the egg to coat, then into the breadcrumbs to cover. Repeat with every piece of fish, placing on an oiled baking tray as you go. Spritz all over with oil spray.

7. Bake for 12–14 minutes until just golden (break one open to check the fish is cooked through). Serve with the chips.

TIPS

  • If your family are keen on spice, try upping the cumin level and adding a little chilli powder for a more pronounced kick.
  • Once you’ve got the hang of the crumbing method, you can flavour the crumbs to your liking. How about a lemon and herb crumb for breaded chicken goujons?

The transformation begins

We’ve been long in the process of actually getting around to transforming rooms in the house and its finally starting to take off and actually beginning to transform.

Finally the entrance hall is nearly there… All i need now is a good coat rack for the wall and I think we may e done albeit a little bit of electrical work! I once hated this mirror – the other half got it in a bulk deal with endless furniture, a shed a lawnmower and more when he moved in 10 years ago, for a barg price of £150 all in… I’ve forever hated it – maybe it just needed dressing… now turn it 90 degrees and it’s growing on me… how?! 🙈 I shouldn’t complain as this means one less thing to replace for now – and the money can go on another detail for somewhere else in the house!

Plant is from Tesco, bowl Parlane & shoe cabinet £89, Ikea.

Care for a cocktail…? Try British Cassis for your friday night top tipples

Grab yourself a bottle now, and work your way through their suggestions (responsibly please) plus take a peek at their cocktail suggestions online at whiteherondrinks.co.uk/cocktails

To make the cocktail as shown…

Pour 50ml (double shot) cider into a chilled champagne coupe [like these beauties from IWOOT ] then shake 50ml British cassis, 50ml pineapple juice and 25ml orange juice altogether, then add ice and shake until cold. Pour over cider – Voila!

It’s super tasty and frothy too! Garnish with blackcurrants on a skewer.

*Heads off to make another…*

48 hours in Prague…

Prague is a must-see city – it has endless history & architecture, amazing food & drink and breathtaking views across & all around the city!
Here is a short guide to the city with restaurant recommendations, sightseeing and travel tips!

After our flight touched down we headed straight for a taxi – make sure you get a taxi with the 40/28/6 tariff clearly visible on the outside of the car, and check the driver name too. (It’s always good to have googled your route too so you don’t get take on a full car journey around Prague. (Never hail one on the street either as you can be charged through the roof!)

Next time though we will be getting the Metro & Bus because if your hotel is pretty central and you only have hand luggage, you can buy a daily travel card which is only 130k which works out around £4.30 or a three day card for around 300k (£10). This gives you travel on buses, the metro and all trams too… meaning you can get a bus number 100 to Zličín where you can then pick up a 20 minute Metro ride straight into town. Easy! The whole tram system is pretty great too with plenty of stops and most hoteliers are very helpful with where your nearest stop is too!

Food and drink was extremely reasonable too! For a couple of pounds we got great street food and found Czech dishes that tasted amazing too! (Watch out for places that don’t display their prices though as we got stung on our second day where we walked the entire city for some of the best views!)

Clout out the chilly air whilst visiting city with this mouth-watering Clam Chowder with chunky bread from @theirishtimesbarprague situated close to the famous Charles Bridge (15th century) down a small side street. Sit under heaters and a blanket and enjoy whilst the world goes by!

Fancy Vietnamese? Then head to must-visit restaurant @redhotchilli_bistro 🌶 We had some of the tastiest food from the whole of our trip here! Inc this amazing vegetable tempura and a beautiful coconut spicy curry with rice… We will be heading there again next time we visit again for sure!

Whilst you’re out sightseeing – take a walk up to the Petrin tower, a smaller replica of the Eiffel Tower, there is a monastery near by which you can take a look at and the view is breathtaking. You can walk up over the Charles bridge, past the castle and up the hill towards the monastery, and either walk back through the park, and gardens or take the funicular railway (also included in your travel ticket) back down the hill. You will find many of the older trams running along the lines at the bottom there too – so take the chance to get a seat on one of the original cars as opposed to a lot of the newer tramcars which run along most of the lines…

Now take a moment and book your trip to this amazing city…
